Curriculum News Letter Autumn Term 2007
Reception
Communication, Language and Literacy:
During this term we will be developing our listening skills, through exploring sounds around us. We will be exploring instrumental sounds, body percussion and rhythm and rhyme. We will be beginning to explore sounds in words. We will have a set of weekly sounds after half term. We will be listening and responding to a wide variety of traditional nursery rhymes, chants, action verses, poetry and stories. We will be exploring our role-play areas: our shoe shop and home corner. We will be providing children with plenty of opportunities for writing, drawing and developing their pencil control. within all areas of our classroom, including our writing table. We will also be introducing simple Spanish words and simple rhymes.
Mathematical Development:
We will be learning to say and use number names to ten in all areas of the classroom, and to count reliably up to ten. We will be sorting and matching objects e.g. shoes, clothes and socks. We will be recognising and using one pence coins in our imaginative play. We will also be going on number hunts around the school environment.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World:
We will be discussing and naming body parts and exploring the senses. We will be exploring our topic of ‘Clothes’, looking and uniforms, making clothes and puppets with suitable materials. We will be talking about their address, houses, and the local environment. We will be developing skills with scissors. We will be exploring the different parts of a computer and using our listening equipment.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development:
We will be gaining experience within our new surroundings and establishing simple classroom rules, taking turns, sharing, tidying up and dressing/undressing ourselves for PE. We will be learning how to become more independent very day.
Creative Development:
We will be painting, making self-portraits, line drawings and chalk pictures. We will be using dough, chalk and a variety of different media to develop our fine manipulative skills. We will be developing confidence in our music and movement activities.
Physical Development:
The children will be learning to change and dress themselves for P.E, the safety rules whilst in the hall and around school. We will be moving to music, introducing starting and stopping activities. We will be developing our throwing and catching skills. Our outdoor activities will include using wheeled apparatus and exploring the outside environment.
RE:
Our topics this term will be- Homes and Families, Visitors, Signs and Symbols.
Homes and Families
The children will be thinking about their homes and families and what they do together. They will be learning about God in every home and family and God’s care for every one. They will be beginning to join in with the simple prayers we use in school
Signs and Symbols
The children will be learning about and understanding the signs they see. They will be able to identify some of the signs of belonging used in the celebration of Baptism
Visitors
The children will be learning what a visitor is and how to get ready for a visitor. They will be learning about Advent being a time for getting ready for Jesus coming at Christmas. They will be learning about the special visitors who come to Jesus at Christmas
Sikhism
The children will be learning about the faith of Sikhism
