Year 3 Summer Term Overview
Numeracy
This term’s work will include both fiction and non-fiction.
The text range will include fables and parables, poetry that plays with language, riddles and humorous poetry. Stories by the same author and a range of English grammar including contractions and speech marks.
The children will also have the opportunity to develop their writing skills.
We will be studying Llandudno and comparing and contrasting it with Our Neighbourhood, Maghull, the previously studied topic. Land use differences tourism sport etc.
We will continue to look at the reasons why people invaded and settled in Britain in the past with particular reference to the Vikings.
The topic for this term will be medicines and drugs.
In this subject we will be investigating patterns and reproducing some of our own.
We will continue to practise ongoing musical skills and rhythmic patterns.
This term will see the children introduced to simulation software.
The topic of air pressure will be explored and the children will use the knowledge they have gained to create “Moving Monsters”.
First Communion preparation and celebration will take place this term.
The topics this term are Holidays/Holydays, Building Bridges and Difference
Holidays/Holydays: In this topic the children will learn that holidays and holydays mark new beginnings. They will learn about Pentecost: the celebration of new life in the Holy Spirit and the birthday of the Church.
Building Bridges: The children will think about the care and effort required to maintain good relationships and the importance of admitting wrong and being reconciled with each other and with God.
Difference: the children will think about the richness and challenge of difference among people and how different saints show people what God is like.
Other faiths week – Judaism
This term the children will be taking part in athletics which includes throwing the javelin and discus and cricket.
Science
The topics this term are helping plants grow well and magnets and springs.
