Girls Play Great Game of Football
The year 6 girls with help from Jess in year 5 played a great game of football last night against a very strong Melling team. They eventually lost the game but played some great football. Well done to all the girls. This was a particularly great effort as we only had 7 players to choose from.

To celebrate World Book Day children from year 5 and 6 were invited to the Crosby Civic Hall to listen to Joseph Delaney the childrens author of spooky stories. Anne Fine was also present and the children were able to ask questions about getting ideas for stories and how they develop characters and plots. We had a great time and listened to Take That on the radio in the mini bus on the way back to school.
The children all received a free book as part of the event. We were all very well behaved especially me.
Tag Rugby Team Have a Great Try
The boys and girls from the Tag Rugby after school club took part in the 5th annual Kew Woods Tag Rugby Competition today 5th March. They played some excellent rugby and scored a number of fantastic trys. We were all a bit cold but the rain held off for us. Unfortunately we did not win our group but were narrowly beaten 3:2 by the team that went on to the semi-finals. Here are a few pictures of us and our medals for being one of the 12 schools in Sefton who took part. Well done to all the team.

School has Visit from Diane Brady
Diane our Police Community Support Officer visited school yesterday (Monday 3rd December). She visited each classroom starting with the reception class. She spoke to the younger children about keeping safe and always staying with your mum and dad when you go out. She gave each child two reflective stickers to put on their bag and school uniform so that they can be seen in the dark. A similar message was given to our older children. Diane then went on to talk about wearing a cycle helmet and reflective clothing or stickers. The children were told to make sure that they had working lights on their bikes to help motorists see them in the dark winter months. The children received a booklet with word searches and information about keeping safe.
Terrific Tuesday
What a great effort from the footballers in year 3 and year 4. We all went in a mini bus to play against St George's. The football was fantastic and their attitude was first class. Well done to everyone and a big thanks to our army of supporters. The way you encourage your children sets an excellent example. Thank you. Two more games have been organised for this Friday at home. I can't wait. Here are a few pictures from the evening. Well done to captains Tom and Paul.
Fantastic Football Friday

St John Bosco named among the best 18 in the country
We were all delighted when we were informed that we were to be named as one of the best Primary Schools in the country. The schools achievements were taken over the last three years and our school was named as 18th out of all the primary schools in the country. Obviously we are all very proud but this should be shared by everyone who helps our children in all that they do. Teachers, support staff, welfare, parents and family all play an important role in preparing our children for life. I am just glad that the after school provision was not included as the number of children regularly taking part is quite astonishing. (The poor field is beginning to struggle, however, it still looks better than the New Wembley pitch). Well done to one and all for a fantastic collective achievement.
Christmas Greetings to the World
A great big thank you and well done to our children for their fantastic effort in this years Christmas Shoe Box Appeal. We collected over 120 boxes and the children were all able to take part in a special assembly that showed them how their generosity would help to put a smile on the faces of children less fortunate. For many children this will be the only gift that they have ever received in their young lives and to know that someone is thinking of them must be a great comfort. It really does help our children to understand the real message of Christmas. What a great effort well done once again.
Boys play at Liverpool Academy in Year 5 Tournament
The boys from year 5 and a boy from year 4 played in the Liverpool Academy tournament on Wednesday 14th November. They played some fantastic football and were very unlucky not to progress to the final. They were the best team there playing the quick passing game that we try to develop at St John Bosco. Unfortunately the woodwork and some amazing goalkeeping kept our attempts out of the net. All I can say is that they were brilliant and I really enjoyed watching their football. There was certainly more to watch than at an average game at Southport FC
Boys get to semi-finals in local football tournament
We were all very proud of our year 5 and year 6 football team who reached the semi-finals of the Maghull and District football tournament held today at Maghull High School. International Walk to School Week
Diane Brady our Community Support Officer popped into school to say hello to the children at the end of their Walk to School Week. Once again she was delighted with their effort to keep fit and healthy whilst reducing pollution and congestion. She will be visiting each class after half term to discuss a range of community issues and collect some of the children's ideas. Here she is with some of our pupils looking at the nearly empty car park.
Next week is International Walk to School Week and we hope to build on our very successful event that took place last year. Year 6 Maricourt Festival Winners
Year 6 were well deserved winners of the 3rd annual Maricourt Top Link Sports Festival. The boys and girls took part in four football matches, four games of tag rugby and four hockey matches on a glorious afternoon at Maricourt High School. They really did work well in their four teams with boys and girls playing together. Mr Durham from Maricourt PE department was delighted with all the teams and congratulated the St John Bosco children on their achievement. This is the second time that our year 6 children have won the competition. Well done everyone you can have all next week off school as a reward.
National Walk to School week
Well done everyone from Diane (Community Support Officer)
National Walk to School Week took place this week 21st-25th May. On Wednesday 23rd May we had our big walk, park away, car share or year 6 cycle. It was a fantastic success and the weather wasn't that great. Diane Brady our Community Support Officer came to help the children monitor the impact. She was delighted and said that she wished that more schools would do this. The children are going to try to do this more often and change the way they think about getting to school. Isabel and Luke are pictured with Diane as they monitor how we are making our school safer, healthier, improving our environment and helping to reduce Global Warming.
Well done everyone. You have made your special walk to school day the best ever. From Diane Brady (Police Community Support Officer) |

Liverpool Echo Shield
The boys in year 6 played against Holy Rosary in the second round of the Echo Shield last night, 1st March. They really played well as a team and gave Holy Rosary a difficult game. Holy Rosary were just a bit too strong and won the game 4:1 however the goal of the match came from St John Bosco with a fantastic team effort and a great lob by John. Well done boys and thanks parents for some great and very sporting support. It really makes all the difference. Year 6 cup here we come.

Officially Outstanding was the verdict from our team of school inspectors from Ofsted. The school was awarded the highest mark of grade 1 for all seven categories of inspection. I do hope that you received your copy of the school report and that you have read the letter from the inspectors to your children. I think they really captured all that we try to do at our school.

Cricket Update
The Ashes was retained by St Georges after a thrilling and remarkably close match. St John Bosco won the toss and elected to field. A strong team scored 165 runs which gave the home team a very difficult target. St John Bosco began very slowly finding runs difficult to come by. However after the 5th over they began to score. Unfortunately for them it was too late and a worthy 143 was not enough. The teams enjoyed cakes and the by now obligatory cherryade from a local supermarket. Congratulations to our friends at St Georges and we will see you again next year.

The Play |
The third match played at St John Bosco on Thursday 13th July was a very close match with St Georges ending up winning by only 12 runs. The final of the Ashes series will be on Tuesday 18th July at St John Bosco School and could be a very close affair. Both teams are improving all the time and have been a joy to coach. Well done to all and good luck.
The second cricket match between St John Bosco and St George's was a much closer match with St George's once again winning, but by only 19 runs. The boys are all playing a much better game with concentration improving all the time. Each player had a much stronger game and Liam had a real cracker of an over taking 2 wickets from his first two deliveries with Jack taking a fantastic catch. Next match is at home after the sports day on Thursday, 13th July because St George's are having their summer fair on the Friday. All support is very welcome. The match could be very close.
Well, the now famous ashes competition between St John Bosco CPS and St George's CPS is under way. St George's won the first match with some fantastic cricket on both sides. A strong final over saw St George's take the first match.

St John Bosco boys 0 Lydiate Primary 2
The boys just missed out in the cup final in a thrilling and well played match yesterday 28th June. The team enjoyed much of the possession and were unlucky not to score but for some fantastic keeping from the Lydiate goalie. A great solo effort at the end of each half secured the cup for our visitors. The boys should be proud of their great team spirit giving the winners their toughest match of the season. A big thanks to all the parents who supported the teams in the most sporting of ways. I really enjoyed this game. Well done boys, I know you are disappointed not to have won but you really did play well.
