Friday Update 08.10.21

8 October 2021 (by stjohnb)

Dear Parents and Carers

A most enjoyable week with the children engaged in a full curriculum both inside and outside of their classrooms.  Year 3 enjoyed using our poly-tunnel to make their wooden picture frames as part of their design and technology work.  Year 5 had a great experience at the Meadows Baths learning about water safety.  They will take their test next week and we wish them every success.  Year 6 enjoyed a visit to the Manchester Imperial War Museum to support their topic work on World War II and all the children have been able to enjoy their PE and after school clubs which continue to be well attended.  All pick ups from the front of the school please at 4.15pm for after school clubs.

Well done to the Upper Junior Boys who played a football match on Tuesday with every child playing at least half the match.  The closely contested game ended in a 2 all draw on what was a rather small pitch for boys of their age.  Next week we welcome Melling in our first league game and we have our first girls football match organized for the 21st October – details to follow.

Our school choir has now been selected and Miss Briscoe, Miss Rogers and I were delighted with the numbers who attended.  We now have an extremely high standard and a final number of 24.  We held our first full practice yesterday at lunchtime.

Fr Grant has given us permission to sing at the Year 5 Holy Communion on Saturday 16th October.  The Choir are very excited at this early opportunity for them to perform and I will be sending individual letters next week for permission for them to attend.

I am pleased to be able to inform you that our first parents meeting will take place the week beginning Monday 18th October.  This will be via Zoom as the feed back we have received clearly indicated that this was most convenient and we are still maintaining sensible precautions.  Teachers will be contacting you via google classroom next week and new parents in reception will be contacted in the same way, so please don’t worry any problems please contact the office.

Any outstanding monies for the Children’s Chester Zoo Visit (year 1-4) and the Junior Classes CGP Bundles need to be returned as soon as possible via Iris Parentmail, please select ‘other payments’.

The Friends of St John Bosco are having their first fundraising Bingo, as you know, on Friday 22nd October.  Many thanks to those of you who have donated prizes.  We could still do with a few more and if you are able to send these in as soon possible, I am sure they will be greatly appreciated.  Mr Mainwaring will be in attendance as I am unfortunately absent.  I am delighted that  Mr Greenwood will be calling the numbers and I am reliably informed that this will be a most entertaining Halloween themed event.  As all of us are now double vaccinated I would ask that you take a quick lateral flow at sometime on Friday.  If this event is successful, the Friends of St John Bosco will feel confident that they will be able to arrange further social events that will raise much needed funds which will ultimately be spent on our children.

I wish you all a happy weekend.

Yours sincerely

Mr D MacAreavy - Headteacher
