Friday Update 18.03.22

18 March 2022 (by stjohnb)

Dear Parents and Carers

The children have enjoyed another busy week in school and I am pleased that we seem to have fewer children absent which is the best news we can share as this means our children are where they should be, in their school learning.

The Book Fair was finally returned on Wednesday.  This was particularly well received with a final total of £843.00.  Our school will receive a generous commission which our children will use to purchase their favourite books for their new library.

Our School Library is now well and truly in operation.  Every child has now enjoyed choosing a book and I must say that this exciting new addition has exceeded our expectations.  Watching children choose to read a book at play time in the sunshine is something to be celebrated.  We still have plans for our library and parents and children continue to generously donate to this wonderful facility.  I hope to start an adult section when we return after Easter in much the same way as we borrow books from a central area when we are on holiday.

Red Nose Day – today our children celebrate Red Nose Day and the school looks impressive decked in red, however, I am pleased and happy for the blue side of our school family following their valuable three points yesterday.   Thank you for your generous donations and we shall share this total with you when it has been reconciled through Iris Parentmail.

Parents Evening – our parent’s evenings will take place next week and you should have received your Zoom invitation from your child’s teacher.  Any issues please initially contact your child’s teacher and failing that we shall be happy to help in the school office.

Next week we see our Year 5 children receive their Bikeability Classes.  They have been told when to bring their bikes into school by Mr Mainwaring and I am sure that they will enjoy this important training as I am regularly horrified with the way that some teenagers behave on the highway.

Class Photos – Class photos will take place on Tuesday 22nd March, Year 5 have been asked to come to school in their smart school uniform and bring their PE kit in their bag on this occasion.  Can I ask that your child comes to school in a sensible manner - Make up and over-elaborate hair stylings are not appropriate for a school class photograph.  I am sure you understand and I thank you for your support.

Year 4 Holy Communion Update – Our Year 4 families will receive a letter from Fr Grant on Monday which will outline the arrangements.  The children will be split into two groups as in previous years as all concerned felt this was a significant improvement to the whole service.  It is worth noting for your diaries that a Catechist’s Session has been arranged for Sunday 3rd April 2.00pm in St Gregory’s Church.  Further details will be in the letter you receive.

I have asked any boys in Year 5 and 6 to return their football kits so I can get things ready for the matches that will take place when we return after Easter.  Can I remind everyone and in particular our Year 6 children to return their reading diaries and books on their specified days as this helps greatly with staff who are timetabled to support this.  Year 6 children must return their reading diary and book each Friday.

A number of younger children have been upset at dinner time which should be a time of enjoyment.  It would seem from talking to them that they do not like what their parents have chosen.  New menus went out yesterday and can I ask you to consider your choices carefully so that lunchtime is a happy time for all.  Menus must be returned by next Friday.

Finally, as the weather forecast continues to improve I hope that their forecast is accurate and we can all enjoy some sunny weather over the weekend.

Yours sincerely

Mr MacAreavy - Headteacher
