Friday Update 13.01.23

13 January 2023 (by stjohnb)

Dear Parents and Carers

Although this has been a rather wet and windy week, the children have enjoyed a warm school environment and their work for their teachers continues to be pleasing.  It is most encouraging that the vast majority of children are now in school at 8.45am or 8.50am at the latest.  Please continue to try to support the school in this target as indications from the Department of Education are that 8.45am will become a statutory requirement.  Teachers have start up activities already for the children and this ensures that each class gets a good start to the day.

Our Year 3 children enjoyed a wonderful day out at Story Barn at Calderstones Park in Liverpool to support their Stone Age topic.  The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit and I was most impressed with the knowledge they had retained and look forward to making our own Stonehenge in Class next week.

Year 4 had their first swimming session on Thursday and both Mr Parry and I were delighted to see just how much the children had improved as we are now able to access swimming facilities.  If you are able to support your children by taking them to the swimming baths this will clearly have a further positive impact.

We enjoyed another visit from the Liverpool Foundation on Monday for Year 5 & 6 and the children certainly enjoyed engaging with this initiative.  The member of staff informed me that she loves coming to our school because the children’s level of engagement and attitude is so good.

Many thanks to Miss Cook for arranging a wonderful Yoga Session for our Year 3 and Year 6.  It was certainly a most calming experience and we are pleased that the children will be able to benefit from this Active Sefton Initiative until half term.

I am so pleased that our Policy of having After School Clubs indoors is working and this gives our children a wonderful opportunity to socialize and play together enjoying a range of sports and other activities in a warm and safe environment.  Can I remind children that regular attendance is required and that it is not appropriate to just pick and choose?  I thoroughly enjoyed Year 4 Lego Club on Monday and the children’s imagination and collaboration was amazing.  It certainly took me back to my childhood as Lego was my go to activity when I couldn’t play outside because of poor weather.

Fr Grant is keen to reinstate Parish Masses in School and the first of these will be on Monday 16th January at 9.15am in our school hall.  This will be a Junior Mass for any of our Parishioners but I would also like to invite any Parent and Grandparents who are available.  On this occasion we are unable to accommodate babies and very young children.  It is our intention to develop these Masses so that we can offer a warm place for half an hour after the Mass where we can enjoy a cup of tea, a biscuit and a chat.

Can I wish you all a peaceful and happy weekend.

Yours sincerely

Mr D MacAreavy - Headteacher
